One common mistake I see is that people worry way too much about keyword density, meta tags and backlinks. While all of these are all important ranking factors, your SEO campaign will be doomed if it’s based solely on them. It’s still important to remember the end-user of a website during the development stages. If people cannot easily navigate through your site and find what they’re looking for, then all of the SEO in the world won’t help you convert website visitors into customers…

I recently read the post “SEO Essentials for Startups in Under 10 Minutes” on the Google Developers Blog and thought it would be a good idea to share it with my readers. The blog post and video were done by Maile Ohye, a Developer Advocate on Google’s Webmaster Central Team.

The post relates to busy business owners who don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on SEO, and how they can easily set themselves up for success without spending a ton of time doing so. Here are a few tips that Ohye gives for SEO startups:

1. Don’t worry about keyword meta tags – Google does not use them anymore.
2. Spend some time on your titles and description meta tags – They are useful
3. Most importantly, watch this 10 minute video to give yourself some “SEO piece of mind”.
